The new initiative provides one-to-one careers and employment support for women, ethnic minorities and older people in the borough who are not currently in work. These groups have been identified by the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy as needing additional support in accessing services and opportunities.

Funded by the UK government throught the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Work Hounslow - the Council’s Skills and Employment Team - is delivering the programme over a six-month period. Residents will meet their employment advisors every two weeks, exploring career goals, creating personalised career plans improving CVs, and preparing for job applications and interviews.

Employment advisors can work with residents to develop career pathways that meet their own personal needs such as childcare. Work Hounslow will also work closely with employers to ensure that employees can enjoy a healthy, balanced work life and are paid at least the London Living Wage.

Councillor Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Education, Children, Skills and Employment, said:

“We are committed to creating a fairer, more equal and inclusive borough where residents can thrive and realise their full potential. Work Hounslow’s new programme supports disadvantaged residents to improve their career prospects. We work together with local employers and the community to help residents reach their goals – whether that is securing local jobs that pay the London Living Wage, enrolling in training courses or volunteering for a good cause.”

On Tuesday, 15 October, Work Hounslow will host a job fair for women living in the borough in Feltham Community Hub. More details will be available soon.

Work Hounslow provides free information, advice and guidance to adults aged 18 or above living the borough who are seeking employment, training, upskilling and reskilling or volunteering opportunities.

Hounslow residents can contact Work Hounslow to learn about career support via email work@hounslow.gov.uk, by calling 020 8583 6174 or visiting the website for further enquiries.
