Adults and Substance Misuse

Alcoholism and drug addiction have obvious and well-documented effects on chronic substance abusers. Prolonged abuse of drugs and/or alcohol will deteriorate a person’s physical health and impact their mental health.

Addictions can form very quickly sometimes, and some can form over longer periods of time. Either way, the effects of an addiction in adulthood can impede on their lifestyle in multiple ways, for example, raising their children, keeping a job, falling into debt, etc. It therefore is important that adults seek advice, information and guidance from specialists that can help them learn how to cope and to manage their addiction in the longer term.

In this section you will find materials and resources to support you in finding information that can support adults with understanding what substance misuse is, what effects it can have on them and others around them, and where to seek help.
