Neglect

It can be particularly difficult for professionals to recognise the signs of neglect because there is unlikely to have been a significant incident or event that highlights the concern. It is more likely that there will be a series of concerns over a period of time that, taken together, demonstrate that the child may be in need or at risk. Deciding if a child is neglected can be very hard and it's natural to worry that you may be mistaken.

In this section you will find materials that offer guidance to professionals working with children and young people where there are concerns that neglect may be present.  This includes materials that define neglect and list signs that a child or young person maybe experiencing neglect.
