Flat entrance fire door upgrades

First phase of the programme

We have almost completed the first phase of a programme of upgrading fire doors in high rise buildings and sheltered schemes.

At the time of writing we are planning the next phase of this programme to remaining high rise blocks, sheltered schemes and medium rise blocks and will be contacting residents when this phase is confirmed to provide adequate prior notification to works (surveying, installation, etc).

If your front entrance door is not compliant with current Building Regulation requirements for new flat entrance fire doors, the Council will add you to the programme for an upgraded door as part of these works.

Tenants will have the cost of replacement met by the Council. For leaseholders, the cost of the doors depends on what specification your flat requires. The Council will offer to install a door to the required specification and recharge for the respective true cost value.

The Council is happy to allow leaseholders to make payments over a period of up to 18 months’ dependant on circumstances and repayment agreements can be arranged via the Leasehold Services Team at leaseholdservices@hounslow.gov.uk - 0208 583 3787.

Alternatively, if you wish to replace the door yourself, you should firstly provide details beforehand by email to the Housing Investment Team: HousingInvestment@hounsow.gov.uk to confirm this is the correct standard required.

Then as replacement of flat entrance doors are categorised as controlled work under the Building Regulations – and therefore to change a flat entrance door requires obtaining permission from Building Control to further ensure that the new door meets current standards.
