Equality

Equality analysis

The Council has to give due regard to its Equalities Duties, in particular with respect to general duties arising from section 149 of the Equality Act 2010. Having due regard to the need to advance equality involves, the need to remove or minimise disadvantages suffered by equalities groups.

Equality Analysis is a tool to help assess the likelihood of disadvantage for equalities protected groups when adopting or reviewing  policies/procedures or when considering  savings proposals/restructures and transformations or to assess  whether the Public sector Equality Duty under section 149 of the Equality Act 2010  has been engaged or relevant .

Equality Analysis seeks to demonstrate that due regard has been given to the equalities protected characteristics and the equalities duties and that the policy/ procedure/ proposal is not in breach of the equality duties. The aim is to support members make informed decisions about the policy change/savings proposal balanced against any likely adverse effects.

It also sets out the actions proposed to mitigate any adverse effect identified by affected stakeholders during the consultation or from any data analysis.
