Enlighten Hounslow: The Easy guide to Energy

Why improving energy efficiency matters

Hounslow Council is a proud leader when it comes to bold climate action, and is committed to reaching net zero carbon by 2030.

To achieve climate targets in Hounslow and across the UK, carbon emissions that are created through energy consumption in the home must be reduced, and energy efficiency must be improved.

Creating a more energy efficient home not only protects the environment, but more sustainable energy usage can also help families save money on energy bills.

Did you know... that homes generate 35% of all the energy used in the UK, and emit 20% of the country’s carbon dioxide.

And in Hounslow alone, more than 32% of households in the borough are classed as energy inefficient.

Energy efficiency directly relates to health, too. Housing that have low energy efficiency ratings and that are classed as energy inefficient often means cold, uncomfortable homes, and is a risk to residents’ wellbeing. To help improve the quality of Hounslow’s homes (in terms of its energy), longer-term building improvements to reduce energy consumption and improve energy efficiency are needed: and this ‘modern makeover’ is known as Retrofit.

Improved energy efficiency in homes has various clear benefits. Not only for the positive impact of energy reduction on the environment, but to aid households and residents in lowering energy bills and keeping warm.
