Our pledge and how we deliver this
Our vision is to lead the way in providing good quality, affordable homes for people on a range of incomes, as well as opening the door to build vibrant, thriving communities. We believe the two go hand in hand. We also want to ensure there’s room for growth in the borough for new and existing families.
That’s why, as part of our corporate strategy, we have pledged to:
- secure an additional 5,000 new and affordable homes by 2022. Of which 3,000 new Council and Housing Association homes for social rent and 2,000 for shared ownership and other affordable housing
- crack down on rogue landlords
- support residents to buy their first home
It’s a challenge, it’s ambitious, but we intend to deliver.
How we deliver our pledge
To fulfil our pledge, we are exploring opportunities across the borough suitable for redevelopment, and will keep Hounslow residents at the forefront when making these decisions. To deliver 5,000 new homes is a big task and we realise we will not be able to meet this pledge on our own. We’re working hard with our partners to make this a reality.
Funding for the proposed new homes will come from a variety of sources, including the Council's HRA new build fund, Central Government and Greater London Authority (GLA) grants, housing association partnerships schemes, and private developers.
