CarePlace directory - Occupational Therapy Team - aids, equipment and adaptations

Record details

Service description

If you have difficulty carrying out everyday tasks because of age, illness or disability, the Occupational Therapy Team can offer advice and may carry out an assessment in order to provide you with aids and equipment to help you stay independent in your home.

A wide range of equipment is available, including aids to help you use the bath and toilet, dress, cook and to help you move around your home safely. Low level equipment may be provided on permanent loan directly from the OT Team at no charge to you.

The Council’s Handyperson Service can assist with minor adaptations such as grabrails, in addition to minor repairs and other small jobs.

If you are assessed as needing more substantial equipment or home adaptations such as ramps, galvanised rails, a stairlift or level access shower, the social care OT Team will work with their counterparts in the Housing Adaptations Team to find the best solution for you.

Funding substantial equipment and adaptations

Please contact us for individual advice but in general adaptations are funded as follows:

*All adaptations to council-owned properties are free of charge but if your property has been valued under the Right-to-Buy scheme you will be considered a private householder.
