ILAYS is a non-profit organisation, set up in 2004 by the East African community in West London.
Making the transition to life in the UK can be tough, and ILAYS recognised that migrants, refugees and asylum seekers were in danger of feeling excluded, isolated or ignored. They felt something could be done to help and so ILAYS was set up.
ILAYS provide non-judgmental services to BME communities in West London, regardless of religion, race, gender, sexuality or politics.
ILAYS services
Most of our volunteers are from a similar background, and understand the challenges that our clients face. We offer inclusive and multilingual services that are culturally, appropriately adapted, and our volunteers speak in different languages to support our clients. Languages spoken include English, Somali, Urdu, Kiswahili, Amharic, Arabic, Punjabi, Urdu and Spanish.
Our services include:
- Health, fitness and relaxation sessions to promote healthy lifestyles
- Coffee mornings and Social Club
- Life Coaching
- One to one Advice and Advocacy to help express your views and help you stand up for your rights
- Employment support offering advice on CVs, job searching, interviews and workplace etiquette
- Signposting and referral services
- Youth support services
- Access to Mental Health Services
- Youth support sessions to promote positive attitudes amongst young people and dedicated youth workers to help support young people’s needs.
- Advice Information and guidance on welfare benefits, housing, education, training and health
- Support in completing welfare benefit application forms such as housing benefit, universal credit, appeals & mandatory reconsiderations, Councill tax support & discounts.
