What is Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG)?

The United Nations defines violence against women and girls as ‘any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm’. 

It includes: -

  • Domestic Abuse
  • Sexual Violence and Abuse (including Rape)
  • Coercion and control 
  • Stalking
  • Forced Marriage
  • Female Genital Mutilation
  • So called honour-based violence
  • Sexual Exploitation/trafficking of women and girls.
