The Housing Options Service

The Homeless Persons Unit is the council’s service for people who are at risk of losing their home and is the place to receive housing advice and options.

Not everyone who becomes homeless is entitled to council housing. Anyone who has a problem with their private tenancy or is threatened with homelessness should contact the Housing Prevention and Advice Team on 020 8583 3842 or by the online enquiry form as soon as possible, so that they can find out what help they may be entitled to.

Under our Housing Prevention and Advice Service everyone who contacts us with a housing problem will receive advice on the housing options available to them.

We run the Housing Register and the Let Start Scheme and provide Temporary Accommodation to people who qualify for it under the Homelessness Legislation

If your application has been rejected or you have received a negative decision you can find out how to request a review in these pages.

These pages will help you find the information about the options that might be available to you. There is a lot of information here and hopefully you will be able to find the answer to any questions that you might have.

Please remember that, even if you think you are homeless or threatened with homelessness, we might not have a legal duty to find you a home.

And even if we agreed that we have a duty towards you, we might not be able to give you the type of home you would like. This is because Hounslow Council have a limited supply of social housing and the demand for social housing hugely exceeds the supply of housing in this borough.

However, we will try to do all we can to help you secure a home by exploring alternative housing options, despite the serious housing shortage in this area.
