Street parties are a great way to meet new people and your neighbours in a fun way where everyone can join in.
It’s a great British tradition which not only allows a safe environment for children to play in but enables people of all ages and backgrounds to come together in a relaxed way and helps build a friendly community.
Street parties are for local residents and are hugely subsidised by the council. You can apply for a street party if you:
- live on the road where the party will be held
- have received approval from other residents from that road
When planning a street party you need to consider:
- highway legislation - you need to apply for permission to close the road
- noise
- food safety
- health and safety
- insurance
By taking precautions and showing consideration to your neighbours, everyone can enjoy your party.
You may also need to think about whether:
- the site is suitable for the event (consider physical nature of the ground, number of people likely to attend, location)
- you have enlisted the support of a sufficient number of suitable people to help on the day (for example, first aiders)
- you have obtained all the relevant permissions (for example, land owner and street closures)
Apply
You can make an application for a road closure.
This costs £36.62 (1 April 2026 until 31 March 2027).
We need to receive the application at least six weeks before the proposed event.
Applications received less than six weeks before the event will not be accepted. We recommend contacting us as early as possible to check whether your application is likely to be approved.

We will either approve or reject your application. If we approve it, you need to make payment.
You need to consider if you want to request street cleansing.
If you have requested road barriers, our contractors Hounslow Highways will deliver them at least one day before the event.
Make payment
You can pay the road closure fee by bank transfer or card payment.
You need to quote a street party reference number. Submitting a BACS payment without this reference may cause a delay in processing your request.

Street cleansing
Working with Hounslow Highways, we can provide street cleansing for street parties. We will:
- ensure that the street is clean before the party
- provide bags to put waste in
- pick up the bags after the party
