Ever fancy learning about the trade secrets of plumbing, carpentry, or painting and grouting but didn’t want to pay for the pleasure? Well now’s your chance as Coalo, Hounslow’s wholly owned property maintenance company has successfully held over 30 DIY sessions for its residents in the last six months.
In a joint project with Hounslow Council’s Community Engagement Team, Coalo’s team of professionally qualified trades have been all over the borough teaching DIY enthusiasts the rudiments of fixing a tap, replacing a toilet seat and unblocking a sink. And best of all, the sessions have all been absolutely free.
Martin Robertson, a budding DIYer from Trimmer Walk in Brentford has now attended three completely different sessions. He says: ‘All my mates laugh at me, but I went to a brilliant couple of sessions in the last week and learnt so much from the experts. By co-incidence, my mother lives close by and she needed a new toilet seat attaching. Well, I had just attended a DIY session showing us exactly how to just that, and I put my practice into action. I shall be certainly attending a few more sessions in the near future.”
Colin Gallaugher, Managing Director of Coalo commented: “I am so pleased these sessions have been such a success. We maintain all of the Council’s housing estates throughout the borough and our intention is to host DIY sessions in available locations within these estates , so long as any of our tenants or leaseholders have an interest in attending them. So far, our 30 odd sessions have attracted over 150 local tenants and leaseholders and the feedback has been fantastic.”
