There will be free parking, with no charges, in council controlled paid-for parking spaces on-street and in car parks on Christmas Eve, Tuesday 24 December 2019.

As the last-minute dash is made for those Christmas gifts, there is a chance to shop local and support the borough’s small businesses and town centres.
Councillor Hanif Khan, Lead Member for Transport, said:
“This a small gesture from the council to help residents with the stress of last minute preparations for the holiday season.
"We hope that lifting normal restrictions during this time will make things a little easier for everyone trying to get around the borough and give another welcome boost to our local businesses.
"Following the recent procurement of a new cashless parking provider, PaybyPhone, in future years we will look to use new technology to tailor such promotions at zero and low emission vehicles only as part of our emerging climate emergency action plan due to be discussed at Cabinet in January. We will also be consulting in 2020 about varying our various parking charges in relation to vehicle emissions to do our bit in incentivising a shift towards less polluting cars and vans.
On the 25 and 26 December 2019 and 1 January 2020 Bank Holiday restrictions will apply in council controlled car parks and on-street parking.
Normal charges will apply on the following dates: Saturday 28 December, Monday 30 December and Tuesday 31 December 2019.
Motorists should note that other parking restrictions such as single and double yellow lines will still be in place and will be enforced during this time.
From 16 December, PaybyPhone has replaced Ringo as our cashless parking solution. Please consult the PaybyPhone website for more information and to register.
