Happy, healthy and fun – just three words to describe the Over 60s activity programme with Hounslow Council.

Older residents from across the borough can get fit, enjoy art and craft making, try holistic treatments such as aromatherapy and stretch the muscles in a relaxing way with yoga classes. The activities also on offer include flower arranging, learning computer skills and English lessons for those for whom this is a second language.

The current programme runs until March 2017 from two sites, Frogley House, Hounslow, TW3 3FQ and Edward Pauling House, Feltham, TW14 9RJ. All courses and sessions are designed to encourage a sense of wellbeing, social integration and the opportunity to learn new skills.

Residents in sheltered housing accommodation can also join the programme and help is at hand with transport for those who have mobility issues.

Many of the sessions are free, though a nominal £2 fee is payable for others. All the activities are open to the wider community.

Councillor Kamaljit Kaur, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health Services, Hounslow Council said: “Our aim is to help our older residents be healthy and happy. And of course, have fun! “By getting involved in the programme and trying different activities, not only can people learn a new skill or enjoy a new hobby, but it means being a part of the local community, especially for those people often isolated due to disability or something else that prevents them leaving their homes.

“It’s a great way to keep active and enjoy socialising with others with same interests and age.”
