Earlier this month, councillors agreed to trial a limited period for sign-ups to better manage the subscription service.

Residents have until 31 October 2016 to apply for fortnightly collections of garden waste, which they will receive until 31 March 2017 (except during the Christmas/New Year period).

The partial subscription costs £30 or £15 for those in receipt of Council Tax Support.

The council’s garden waste service changed in April, transferring to a paid for subscription service.

More than 16,000 residents have signed up to the service since the charge was introduced but, due to continuing demand, some experienced a delay with bin/sack deliveries. To ensure the service meets future demands a limited period for sign ups has been introduced.

The current sign up window closes on Monday 31 October 2016. The next window opens in January 2017 when residents will be able to sign up to annual collections starting from April 2017. The subscription will be £50 for the full year (until 31 March 2018), or £25 for those in receipt of Council Tax Support.

Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “If you have been thinking of signing up to garden waste collections now is the time to go online and do this.
“By introducing a ‘sign up window’ we can better manage new subscriptions by ensuring there are ample resources to fulfil any demand.

“The new system is being trialled and will be reviewed before being fully implemented.”
During January and February new or renewed subscriptions will receive a ten per cent early bird discount on the usual fee. The sign up period will close on 31 March 2017 and reopen in July 2017 for two weeks and again in October 2017.

Anyone who currently subscribes to garden waste collections but does not renew their existing subscription will be asked to return their garden waste bin, which will be collected by the council. Those who wish to keep their bin or fail to return it will be charged £50.

Collections will only be made if a subscription is paid.
