The deadline for young people aged 11 to 18 in Hounslow to enter the world of politics and make a difference as the borough’s Members of Youth Parliament (MYP) has been extended to Wednesday 20 March.
Published: Friday, 8th March 2019
If you think you have what it takes to represent the voices of young people living in our borough, then you should consider registering to represent Hounslow in this year’s Youth Elections 2019.
The United Kingdom Youth Parliament (UKYP) is a national organisation where young people campaign to make positive changes for young people across the country.
Hounslow is entitled to have one Member of Youth Parliament (MYP), and one Deputy Member of Youth Parliament to represent and support the work of the UKYP locally and nationally. These members will attend national events throughout the year including the UK Youth Parliament’s annual sitting and the annual House of Commons’ debate.
The wider role of the MYPs is to represent Hounslow on a regional and national basis, and help engage young people in politics, democracy and citizenship. They will also deliver their own personal manifestos to improve the lives of young people in the borough. They will work closely with the Hounslow Youth Council to plan and deliver their manifesto’s priorities.
Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services and Youth Services, Hounslow Council, said: “Our MYPs have done an excellent job representing young people in Hounslow by making themselves heard to make a positive difference for young people within our borough.
“This is a fantastic way for young people to get involved and understand local politics. The Youth Parliament has made a significant difference to youth services in Hounslow and offers some fantastic opportunities for its members. I’d encourage anyone interested to consider standing to register today.”
Anyone who is 11-18 who lives, goes to school or attends a youth group in Hounslow is eligible to stand as a candidate in the election. If you or someone you know would like to be involved in UKYP please express your interest by Wednesday 20 March
Register as a candidate and stand for election.
