This spring, Keep Britain Tidy is organising the biggest ever national clean-up campaign and Hounslow Council, along with its contracted partners, Hounslow Highways and Lampton 360, is lending the campaign its full support and all are busy organising local clean-up events as part of this great campaign.
We all love clean streets and parks and to live in areas free from litter and debris. Not only does it make for a more pleasant environment, it can also give an area a real boost and act as a deterrent to people mindlessly throwing their litter on the ground. Hounslow Highways maintains the public streets and pavements across the borough and Lampton 360 maintains all of Hounslow’s open spaces and parks. Both the council’s partners work tirelessly to keep the borough clear of litter and debris, but there are areas outside of their remit that can accumulate litter which are not routinely cleared e.g. non-public roads and passageways, grass verges and some areas in housing estates. The Great British Spring Clean is a great opportunity for us all to identify these places in our communities and to get together to clean them up.
Whether it’s an alleyway near your home or a neglected part of your local park, why not register to clean it up and get help from your friends, family and neighbours too?
- To get started you need to register your clean-up event on the Keep Britain Tidy website www.keepbritaintidy.org
- You'll need to provide details of where the clean-up is to take place, the date and time and register it online.
- Once your clean-up is registered, please email: KBTSpringClean@hounslow.gov.uk with these details. We ask that you give us at least 1 week's notice of your clean-up event so that we can ensure that we can support it by providing materials and also picking up the separated rubbish, recyclable materials and litter pickers at the end of your clean-up
- We will support all events happening in the borough on our website and social media channels. Follow the campaign on #GBSpringclean #GBSC_Hounslow
If you’d prefer to join a clean-up event that has already been organised, just search for an event in your area on www.keepbritaintidy.org and you can register to get involved from there.
Councillor Guy Lambert, Cabinet Member for Highways, Recycling and Trading Companies said:
“We are very lucky in Hounslow to have a very strong band of community and voluntary groups who regularly give up their time to clean up their communities and who are committed to keeping the borough clean and green.
“This Great British Spring Clean campaign offers an opportunity for more of us to get involved and is a great way to get the community working together for everyone’s benefit. We really hope that we can count on your support in making a real difference to Hounslow and giving the borough a Great British Spring Clean!”
