Ninety-two per cent of Hounslow pupils due to start secondary school this September have been offered a place at one of their six preferred schools, with sixty-five per cent getting their first preference an improvement on last year.
Figures were released today on National Secondary School Offer Day by the Pan London Admission Board, the body with overall responsibility for the coordination of school admissions in the capital.
We have seen an increase in the total number of applications for Hounslow Secondary Schools, with over 320 more Hounslow residents applying for a school place, a 10.5 per cent increase compared to last year.
The figures for the borough, released today (Friday 1, March), reveal:
- 65 per cent of pupils received their first preference
- 84 per cent of pupils received one of their top 3 preferences
- 88 per cent of pupils received one of their top 4 preferences
- 92 per cent of pupils received one of their preferences
- 97 per cent of pupils received an offer for applications submitted by the closing date.
Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Youth Services, Hounslow Council, said:
“Our secondary schools have an excellent reputation for providing high quality education and as a result, we always receive many applications for them as parents and guardians can be confident in the knowledge that their child will enjoy a successful secondary school experience here in our borough.
"One of our key priorities is ensuring our children have the best start in life and that includes their education. The increased demand for primary places we have seen over the last nine years is now emerging in our secondary schools. The figures confirm that more Hounslow residents this year picked a Hounslow Secondary School. We are delighted that more parents/carers got their first preference this year.”
