Hounslow Council has been getting behind the Dry January campaign, run by the charity Alcohol Change UK, as part of encouraging people across the country to change their relationship with alcohol through by going dry in the month of January 2019.
Alcohol Change UK revealed that an estimated 4 million people in the UK are already planning to ditch the booze this January. In 2018, 88 per cent of participants saved money, 71 per cent had better sleep and 58 per cent lost weight.
Whether joining up to the Dry January campaign is for improving your health in general, looking to lose weight or because you have concerns about the amount of alcohol you drink, help and support is at hand throughout the borough.
Health advisors from One You Hounslow are encouraging anyone with a new year’s resolution to cut down on their alcohol consumption. Help and support is still available at the following sessions:
- Friday 11 January, Tesco, Feltham Dukes Green Avenue, Feltham TW14 0LH, 11.30am – 3.30pm
- Monday 14 January, Feltham Centre for Health, The Centre, 210 High Street, Feltham TW13 4GU,11am -1pm
- Tuesday 15 January, Civic Centre, Lampton Road, TW3 4DN, 10am – 1pm

There is also an opportunity to liaise online with a dedicated health advisor for support generally on a healthy lifestyle.
Councillor Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Communities and Workforce, Hounslow Council, said:
“After all that indulgence over Christmas, there’s no better time than the new year, to make a fresh start on getting fitter and healthier by giving your body a break from booze.
“Dry January is a great opportunity for millions of people across the country to change their relationship with alcohol.
“It’s so important to support people and reassure them that there is help out there if they have a problem or they just simply want to get advice on being healthier in general. Remember the result will be a happier and healthier year ahead.”
