The Mayor’s 'Sport for All of Us' strategy explores how community sport and major sporting events come together to foster social integration, get Londoners active, build stronger communities and reinforce London’s position as a pre-eminent destination for major sporting events.
The Mayor’s 'Culture for all Londoners' strategy outlines an ambitious vision to provide Londoners with access to culture on their doorsteps.
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:
“We welcome the Mayor of London’s vision to encourage culture and sport to enrich the lives of Londoners. Here in Hounslow we are committed to providing opportunities for all our residents to be able to live healthy, active lifestyles and improve their wellbeing and quality of life.
“We will continue to provide opportunities to ‘have a go’ for everyone, and very recently invested in the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub as well as improvements to some of our local leisure centres, for the benefit of Hounslow residents.
“Our recent collaboration with the Mayor, Laureus Sport for Good and Nike, has also brought the ‘Model City’ initiative to Hounslow West, opening the door to use sport to bring people from different backgrounds together, strengthen local communities and improve the physical and mental health of residents.
“In addition to this, investment in a number of our heritage sites - thanks to National Lottery players funding distributed through the Heritage Lottery Fund amounting to £15.5m - will not only mean that residents will be able to enjoy and learn about the long-standing history of Hounslow, but they will also be encouraged to access the abundance of culture that sits on their doorsteps.”
