Hounslow Council launches public consultation on Mayor’s Transport Strategy Local Implementation Plan

Hounslow Council has launched a public consultation on the draft Local Implementation Plan in response to the Mayor's new Transport Strategy for London

Local implementation Plan

On 13 March this year, the Mayor of London published the Mayor’s Transport Strategy, setting out the policies and proposals to transform London’s streets, improve public transport and create opportunities for new homes and jobs in the capital over the next two decades. To achieve this, the Mayor wants to encourage more people to walk, cycle and use public transport across the capital, with a vision to see 80% of all trips in London to be made on foot, by cycle or by using public transport by 2041.

In response to this, Hounslow Council, along with every other London Borough, is required to publish a Local Implementation Plan (LIP). This is the third Hounslow LIP and will replace the LIP 2011 – 2031. The document describes how the council will implement the Mayor’s policies and proposals on a local level whilst responding to the unique challenges and opportunities present in the borough. This new plan, once adopted will set out a blueprint for development of transport infrastructure in the borough across the next two decades.

Prior to adopting this new Local Implementation Plan (LIP), we want to gather feedback from across the community on the borough’s proposals. We are therefore launching a public consultation which will run until Wednesday 2 January 2019.

Councillor Hanif Khan, Cabinet member for Transport and Corporate Property at Hounslow Council said:

“The draft new Hounslow Transport Strategy (LIP) proposes bold aims for the future of how we travel in Hounslow. There are many challenges to overcome; air quality, road safety, ensuring transport is sustainable and encouraging active travel to name a few, but these are also opportunities to create a better and more efficient transport system that works for all. The council is keen for our residents to look at the proposals set out in the draft strategy, and most importantly to let us know what you think.”
