Speaking on the 70th anniversary of the National Health Service (NHS), Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

“On behalf of the council, I’d like to wish the NHS a very happy 70th birthday today.

“One of the nation’s best loved institutions, they have transformed the health and wellbeing of millions of people since its formation on 5 July 1948

I would like to personally thank all of the staff who work locally in the NHS, who support and care for us every day. Having worked for the NHS for over 39 years myself, I know from first-hand experience how hard-working and compassionate NHS staff truly are. Their commitment to their patients is beyond question, without the dedicated staff who work in the NHS there wouldn’t be a National Health Service.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our staff and volunteers, carers and other agencies who work hand in glove with their colleagues in the NHS to support our residents”.
