Hounslow’s primary schools have once again been named amongst the best in England for the quality of education provided, according to a new report by the Education Policy Institute (EPI) which examines the impact of academy chains and local authorities on pupil attainment, by comparing school performance in these groups, released on Tuesday 19 June, 2018.

Hounslow Council was ranked sixth in the country overall in terms of performance at the end of Key Stage 2, and fourth in London.

This great achievement is due in no small part to the ethos of Hounslow’s primary schools which value, support and challenge every child to reach their maximum potential.

Cllr Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Youth Services, Hounslow Council, said: “This is fantastic news; our primary school children, their parents and teachers should feel very proud of themselves.

“One of our key priorities as a local authority is to provide high levels of support, ensuring that each child gets the best start to their education. ,These results show that our maintained schools are amongst the best in the country.

“On behalf of the council, I wish our primary children the very best of luck as they move on to secondary school, and look forward to hearing about their achievements in the future.”

The report, published by EPI in June, found that:

  • at primary (KS2), the difference in pupil improvement between the highest and lowest performing groups is the equivalent of over a full term’s progress
  • local authority maintained schools make up 15 of the top 20 school groups at Key Stage 2, with Hounslow ranked sixth
  • the highest performing local authorities are still largely dominated by London and include Hounslow.

Hounslow secondary schools also have an excellent reputation for providing high quality education and as a result, parents and guardians can be confident that the excellent start their child receives at primary level will continue into secondary school here in our borough.

At GCSE level, the borough’s schools came out amongst the top 200 schools in England, out of a total of 3,092 secondary schools nationally. These include The Heathland School and Gunnersbury Catholic School both of which have achieved fantastic GCSE results at Key Stage 4, with both featuring in the top 250 schools for progress.
