Update on Brentford Library

Update on Brentford Library from Councillor Corinna Smart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure.

Published: Friday, 25th November 2016

Councillor Corinna Smart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, Hounslow Council, said: “Following plaster falling from one of the ceilings in the Children’s section of Brentford Library last week, the library was closed immediately as a matter of precaution until a full investigation was carried out.

“A structural engineer was called in by Carillion, who manage the borough’s libraries on behalf of the Council.
Recommendations from the initial report suggest that remedial works to the ceiling and some further investigations are needed.

“These further investigations by engineers are being carried out and the Council and Carillion have decided that the library will remain closed until this has been completed and both parties agree it is safe to re-open.

“In the meantime, residents and library users can return books and items to any library in Hounslow and can renew items by telephone.
