Residents are being urged to shop locally as Small Business Saturday takes place across Hounslow this Saturday, 3 December.
Hounslow Council is actively supporting the initiative once again and some councillors will be out and about in the borough to help drum up trade for local shops and businesses as the final few weeks to Christmas begins.
Traditionally this Saturday, 3 December, is known as the busiest shopping day of the year with just two full weekends left before it is Christmas Eve.
Residents are being asked to think about visiting shops that are on their doorstep and at the same time to enjoy a festive event such as the Isleworth Christmas market, which is taking place between 3pm to 8pm. There will be various market stalls offering a range of gift ideas and food.
Similar activities will be taking place across other town centres within the borough – and the message is, please support your local businesses and ‘shop local!’
Small Business Saturday, an initiative that originated from the United States, is now held annually and last year, it saw the profile of local businesses rise as residents and visitors were encouraged to visit independent shops and spend time in their local High Street as they hunted for Christmas gifts.
The event is also aimed at creating a more long-term boost for local businesses and the communities they are in and to encourage people to make use of their local traders and local shops.
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council said: “This is a great campaign and we encourage all residents and those visiting the borough on Saturday to celebrate and support the local shops and businesses we have and the fantastic part they play in our community.
“The more support we can give our local businesses, the more they can thrive and, as a result, the borough also thrives and is more prosperous.
“Christmas is just around the corner and this is the perfect time to see what your local businesses have to offer and to remind everyone that shopping locally throughout the year helps support our borough – it’s all on our doorstep!”
