Statement on Floreat Brentford from Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council.
Published: Monday, 12th February 2018
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:
“There appears to be misunderstanding around the process for securing sites for Free Schools.
“The responsibility for finding and securing a permanent site for any Free School sits with the Free School sponsor, in this case the Floreat Education Academies Trust, and with the Education Funding Agency (EFA). The local authority has done everything it can to support the Trust and the Education Funding Agency to find a suitable permanent site for the school.
“The decision to open the school on the temporary site was entirely the responsibility of the Trust and the EFA, who were keen to open a Floreat school in Brentford, and who took the decision to open the school in the Great West Quarter in the full knowledge that they had not secured a permanent site for the school.
“We too are saddened by the decision in principle to close the school, and we are doing everything we can to support parents and the school, as well as working with Head Teachers in local schools to find appropriate places for the children in good or outstanding schools, so that they continue to have an excellent education in our borough.”
