Happy, healthy and fun – just three words to describe the Over 60s activity programme with Hounslow Council.

Older residents from across the borough can get fit, enjoy art, tai chi, table tennis, indoor bowls, environmental guided walks and to stretch their muscles in a relaxing way yoga classes. The activities also on offer include cooking with food and nutrition and English lessons for those for whom this is a second language. The current programme runs until March 2018 from four sites, Danehurst, Greenham House, Frogley House and Edward Pauling House.

All courses and sessions are designed to encourage a sense of wellbeing, social integration and the opportunity to learn new skills. Residents in sheltered housing accommodation can also join the programme and help is at hand for those who have mobility issues.

Many of the sessions are free, though a nominal £2 fee is payable for others.  All the activities are open to the wider community.

Councillor Kamaljit Kaur, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care and Health Services, Hounslow Council said: “There are many ways to be active and healthy. No matter your age, fitness or ability, you can find a fun, social, healthy activity in Hounslow.

“By getting involved in the programme and trying different activities, not only can people learn a new skill or enjoy a new hobby, but it means being a part of the local community, especially for those people often isolated due to disability or something else that prevents them leaving their homes.

“It’s a great way to keep active and enjoy socialising with others with the same interests and age.”
