Hounslow Council is inviting residents to take part in a major consultation exercise that will help shape the future of transport and travel in our borough.
The consultation, entitled Moving Forward, is launched today (Thursday, 25 July) and seeks the views of local people on a range of transport-related issues including health, sustainability, road safety and accessibility.
Council transport planners want to know more about how people currently travel around the borough for work, shopping and leisure and how they would like to travel in the future.
The consultation also asks residents what they think Hounslow Council’s priorities for transport and travel should be.
The consultation will take place in two phases to be rolled out over the months ahead. The first round will gather information about current transport trends and residents’ aspirations for the future.
The information from this will be used to update the borough’s current Transport Strategy. The Council will then ask residents for their views on the details of the plan.
Hounslow Council is building on feedback already received from the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and the recent Residents’ Survey to shape the Transport Strategy.
The Transport Team will also use information gathered from its consultation for the new Parking and Kerbside Strategies to support the development of the plan.
Some of the key findings of this consultation were:
- Almost half of residents who responded (49 per cent) said they were worried about the impact of poor air quality on their health, compared to 28 per cent who disagreed.
- Most respondents (80.2 per cent) think about safety when choosing how to travel.
- 69 per cent of those who responded say their mode of travel allows them to incorporate some exercise into their day.
Cllr Katherine Dunne, Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport, said:
Transport and connectivity are pivotal in shaping the future health, prosperity, and resilience of our borough. We recognise transport infrastructure is more than just roads and railways; it’s the lifeline that rejuvenates communities. The Council is unwavering in its commitment to creating a transport network that acts as a catalyst for regeneration and growth that benefits everyone while addressing the challenges of climate change. We urge our residents to share their voices and participate in this consultation, shaping the future of travel in our borough.
We know how important transport and travel are to the future health and prosperity of our borough. We also have to continue to rise to the challenges of climate change and work to improve air quality in our borough. The Council wants to create a transport network that works for everyone. This is why we need the views of our residents. Your voice is really important, so please use it and take part in this consultation to help shape the future of travel in our borough.
Taking part in the consultation is easy and will only take a few minutes.
