Residents and users of Dukes Meadows are being invited to have their say on its future as a major sports and recreation site.

A public consultation is launched today [Monday 16 October] on public realm improvements as well as upgrades to the sporting facilities there.

Dukes Meadows, which boasts an array of formal and informal leisure and recreational facilities, welcomes an estimated one million visits per year and is home to allotments, playing fields, a recreation ground alongside areas leased for formal sport use.

Following an initial phase of consultation in autumn 2016, and ongoing stakeholder engagement, Hounslow Council is proposing a number of improvements to the site which will improve accessibility for visitors and enhance the overall user experience.

The proposals will also involve an upgrade of access routes, improvements to the Thames path, including localised widening and a proposed footbridge, and an upgrade of sporting facilities.

Details of the proposals will be available to view and residents and users will be able to comment on via the Council’s website throughout the consultation period.

Residents can also attend a consultation event on Tuesday 31 October at Chiswick Town Hall, Heathfield Terrace, Chiswick, W4 4JN from 10am to 8.30pm.

At the event, all of the proposals will be on display and members of the project team will be on hand to answer questions.

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said “We had a very positive response about our vision for Dukes Meadows during the last consultation that took place between November 2016 and January 2017.

“During the last eight months, we have been working on feasibility and detailed plans.

“Our plans will transform Dukes Meadows into a great place for everyone to enjoy. They will unlock the River Thames as one of our great assets for Hounslow and will encourage more people to participate in sport and physical activity.

“I would encourage everyone to take part in this final planning stage and share with us their views on the future of this important asset for our borough.

“Our vision for Dukes Meadows is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to improve the site and protect the facilities for future generations. We look forward to sharing our proposals with the community and hearing their feedback.”

The six-week consultation period will run from Monday 16 October to Monday 27 November.
