Supported by Hounslow Council, the Foodbox scheme issues food and toiletries to those people in need who are referred to them by organisations including Jobcentre Plus and Citizens Advice.
Last Thursday, [28 September], a host of supplies were delivered to Hounslow Library at the Civic Centre, Lampton Road, where volunteers were joined by the Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Sue Sampson and Hounslow Heath Councillor Corinna Smart.
Current stocks for use by the Foodbox scheme have been running low and needed replenishing.
Items that had been requested by the project, such as rice, noodles, pasta, tea, coffee, sugar, longlife milk, condensed milk, juices, tinned meat have been coming in.
Other donations have also included beans, sweetcorn, soups, stews, tomato sauce, jam, oil, tinned fruit, tinned veg, dried fruit, cereals, crackers, Tuna, peanut butter, sanitary towels, tampons, toilet roll, toothpaste and soap.
The Mayor of Hounslow, Councillor Sue Sampson, said: “This is a fantastic scheme and one we are very passionate about supporting, as it helps the most vulnerable people in our borough. It will make such a difference to those in need.
“We would like to thank all those who have been donating, please keep the supplies coming in as they are still needed.
“A big thanks must also go to the wonderful volunteers who run FoodBox, without them, there wouldn’t be such a worthwhile initiative.”
Over the last few days, donations have also come in via local schools following Harvest Festivals.
Louisa Noel, Hounslow Community FoodBox volunteer, said: “The generosity and kindness of residents in Hounslow has been amazing and we want to say a big, big thank you.
“Some of those who have donated have wished to remain anonymous, but we want to make sure they know how much we appreciate their donations and want to thank them as well.
“We have a great team of volunteers and we all very grateful to everyone that donates food and money to support the service.”
