The vapes, which were suspected to come from China, included fake vapes of the brand Elfbar. Many of the illicit vapes had tanks that exceeded the legal limit of 2ml, indicating up to 14,000 puffs per vape: this is over double what is expected for the maximum capacity permitted for each tank.

Previous users of counterfeit vapes have reported coughing up blood and suffering nose bleeds, headaches, chest pains and dizzy spells.

It is believed the vapes were destined for retailers in the local and surrounding areas – halting the supply chain in its tracks.

The Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, said:

“Businesses supplying counterfeit vapes have an utter disregard for people’s health – motivated purely by selfish financial gain.

“We are increasingly concerned about the number of children and young people vaping in the borough. That is why we need to ensure strict regulations and controls over vaping – protecting the next generation’s health.”

A number of the vapes that had non-compliant labelling and/or had not registered with Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency were also seized.

The counterfeit vapes have now been destroyed.
