It is a case of school’s in not out, as planning permission for the Bolder Academy school was given the go-ahead by Hounslow Council’s planning committee last night [Thursday 3 August].

It means the academy, which will be a mixed gender, multi-faith school for local children, will look to open its doors in September 2018 on a fit-for-purpose temporary site in Isleworth.

Pupils and staff will then move to a new permanent school building in 2020, located on the home of the Grasshoppers Rugby Club, in MacFarlane Road. The sports club is in the process of arranging a move to a new base, also in Isleworth.

Councillor Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children’s Services and Youth Services, Hounslow Council, said: “This is fantastic news and we can now all look forward to the doors of opening officially next year.

“One of our main priorities is to ensure there are enough high quality school places for all the borough children and young people in order to ensure they are given the best possible start in life with a solid education.

“I would like to thank the parents and all those involved in the journey and that the result of their endeavour is a brand new school for our borough that will see us being able to deliver more top quality education.”

As well as looking to offer a high standard of education for the borough’s children, Bolder will also be able to offer new community facilities, including a four-court multi-use games area, indoor sports hall, studio and classrooms for adult education. It will also retain two existing rugby pitches that are already on site.

With Sky, Europe’s leading entertainment company, just next door, the school will also explore possible opportunities for collaboration with the organisation.

Heidi Swidenbank, Headteacher at Bolder Academy, said: “We’re delighted to have been granted planning permission and are excited as we take our next steps in delivering on our ambitions for a vibrant new secondary school.

“It will be full of bold opportunities, experiences and adventures for future generations of Hounslow.”
