Performance of Amor by Cie Bilbobasso

Hounslow Summer of Culture launched in spectacular fashion on Saturday when hundreds of people enjoyed a free show by internationally acclaimed performing arts company, Cie Bilbobasso.

The show, Amor, was delivered by local arts company Watermans and was the first live performance in the borough’s Summer of Culture, which will showcase the very best in culture, sport, theatre and live performance.

Local communities, businesses and cultural providers are working in partnership with Hounslow Council to deliver the programme, which celebrates all of Hounslow’s unique places, spaces and local people.

Leader of Hounslow Council, Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, who attended the event in Bell Square, Hounslow, said: “This summer we want to attract more visitors to our borough, put Hounslow on the map and give a much-needed boost to local businesses, especially the live events industry, which was severely impacted by the pandemic. I was delighted to see so many people enjoying Amor, which was a truly breath-taking start to our Summer of Culture programme.

Councillor Shivraj Grewal, Cabinet Member for Communities and Equalities, said: “We’ve worked closely with our partners, arts organisations and cultural providers to deliver a programme that has something for everyone. After everything we have been through during the last two years, this is a fantastic opportunity for us to come together and enjoy some amazing entertainment. I hope our communities will take the chance to get involved, meet new people and try something new.”

From free showings of films in our parks and green spaces, to historic exhibitions, guided tours and storytelling, there will be something on offer for everyone, in every part of the borough.

More events will be held in Bell Square outdoor events space throughout the summer, as well as across the borough. The programme includes a Festival of Storytelling, Films on the Green and the Lates events, as well as a series of local history exhibitions and other events, delivered through Hounslow libraries.

The programme also includes the UEFA Women’s Euros taking place at Brentford Community Stadium.
