Information about the £150 council tax rebate

The government’s £150 council tax energy rebates are in the process of being paid to all those who are eligible. 


We are currently processing the rebates for all council tax payers and everyone should receive a letter by the end of May.  The letters contain an individual security code which is essential to allow payments to be made.  Please do not contact us until you have received your letter, or after the end of May if you have not received a letter.

Who is eligible for the payment?

Any household who is registered for payment of council tax in the borough, and lives in a home which is in bands A-D will receive the payment. Second and empty homes do not qualify for this discount.

My home is not in Band A to D, but I still need help

There will be some further funding available to help households who do not qualify under the main scheme. The Council will be implementing a discretionary scheme to help those with homes in other bands who are in need.

How is the payment made?

If you pay by direct debit, and are eligible for the rebate, you should already have received a payment, or you will do so very soon.  Anyone not paying by direct debit should have received a letter, or will do so very soon.  After you have received a letter, you can apply for the rebate using this short online form on the council’s website.   We have started to send these letters out.

How do I apply for the payment if I don’t have internet access?

Once you have received your letter, please phone 0208 583 4242, and choose option 1 for energy rebate payments. If you do not pay by direct debit the letter we send to you will explain what you need to do.  If you don’t receive a letter from us by the end of May 2022, please call us and we will help you.

How can I be sure that fraudsters are not operating and that I am only giving my bank details to the Council?

The safest way to apply is to use the online form on our website.  If you are not applying online, when you contact us you will need to quote the security code that is on the letter that we sent to you.  You will also need to answer security questions to confirm your identify, before we ask for your bank details.  We will not contact you and ask for bank details, we are asking everyone to contact us instead.

How to pay by direct debit if you don’t already
