Community events across Hounslow’s town centres are eligible to receive Welcome Back funding in a bid to bring life, community and fun back to Hounslow’s public spaces, encouraging footfall, showcasing local business, and celebrating its unique neighbourhoods.
So far, Welcome Back Funding has supported Feltham in Bloom’s popular plant giveaway, an installation of locally-designed graphics on Brentford High Street, the Creative Mile - a homegrown creatives’ showcase in Brentford, Abundance London’s secret community project in Chiswick, and fantastic live performances on Hounslow High Street’s Bell Square.
The Council is now on the lookout to support even more events like this in the lead-up to the festive period and beyond, and is inviting organisations to get in touch before the end of the month.
Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “I’m glad to see that hard-working organisations across Hounslow are getting financial support for creative events that bring residents together in enjoying their town centres and ease the impact of the pandemic on local businesses.
“I welcome all organisations who are planning an event this year, particularly around Christmas, or perhaps just have an idea for one, to get in touch and let us help you celebrate our public spaces.
“With shops and businesses now fully open, Hounslow Council is working to support businesses through this new phase of the pandemic, to regain custom and boost the local economy.
“We are using the Welcome Back Fund to support organisations planning amazing public events in the Borough’s town centres.”
Utilising Welcome Back funding from the European Regional Development Fund and MHCLG funding is being provided to local organisations who are planning (or considering) to run events in town centres to make them larger, involve more of the community, work better, or leave a greater legacy.
Welcome Back funding is available until March 2022, and the Council is interested in hearing about events being planned in town centres for December 2021 as soon as possible.
Any organisation in Hounslow with experience in running events in town centres that would like support for an upcoming event please email firstname.lastname@example.org before the end of September.
About funding to support the Borough
The Welcome Back Fund is one of the latest initiatives Hounslow has undertaken over the last year to support businesses by working with them and community organisations to boost the local economy through the pandemic.
The Shop Local campaign recently rolled-out a borough-wide free £20 voucher scheme for all households. For more information and to find out how to get your £20 voucher, click here.
The new www.inHounslow.com hub was created for residents and visitors to find out what’s going on across the borough and promotes everything that’s great to do in Hounslow.
Hundreds of Hounslow businesses have also joined the Innovate and Grow training and mentoring initiative all of which are helping to regenerate the Borough.
The project is receiving up to £140,000 of funding from the England European Regional Development Fund as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme 2014-2020. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (and in London the intermediate body Greater London Authority) is the Managing Authority for European Regional Development Fund. Established by the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund helps local areas stimulate their economic development by investing in projects which will support innovation, businesses, create jobs and local community regenerations.
