BetterPoints app launches to reward residents for keeping fit and healthy.

Research shows that thousands of us are simply not doing enough exercise for good health. The latest figures reveal in some cases, we're doing less than 30-minutes of exercise each week, levels that fall way below the national average.
Health experts warn that a lack of regular exercise can lead to increased risk of chronic conditions like heart disease, Type 2 Diabetes, stroke and some cancers.
Now Hounslow Council has partnered with mobile phone App BetterPoints to try and turn the tide on the issue.
We are encouraging residents across the borough to download the free BetterPoints App on their smart mobile phone - and get going! The mobile App works by totting-up 'BetterPoints' for being active and attending certain health services and Lampton Leisure centres.
Points can then be spent at local businesses and Council owned leisure centres or donated to local charities. The App will also help boost the Council's #ShopSafeShopLocal campaign by encouraging people to shop locally.
There will also be prize draws throughout the programme. Rewards are given for activities like going for a walk, a cycle, or run, and the App will keep residents up-to-date on ways to earn more rewards through community initiatives such as walking groups and litter picking and joining OneYou Hounslow's Health services.
Cllr Candice Atterton, Cabinet Member for Adults, Social Care and Health, said: "Research shows that over 67,000 people aged over 16 who live in our borough do less than 30 minutes of exercise each week when the recommended level is 150 minutes a week.
“For most people, getting more active by walking, cycling or running can be a safe and enjoyable way to look after their physical and mental wellbeing and so we actively encourage this.
“We know that physical activity boosts self-esteem, mood, sleep and gives you more energy. The BetterPoints App is the ideal opportunity for people to get active in the sunshine after being inside our homes for months this winter."
Any Hounslow resident signing up to the One You Hounslow challenge between now and 8 August will be entered into a prize draw for a £25 Love2Shop Voucher.
