Linkline+ helps Hounslow residents stay independent at home

Hounslow Council is offering residents who are less mobile or have a physical or learning disability a chance to stay independent in their own homes, with a 24-hour quick-response service.

Hounslow Council is offering residents who are less mobile or have a physical or learning disability a chance to stay independent in their own homes, with a 24-hour quick-response service.

Linkline+ operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year, arranging help for vulnerable people in the case of an emergency in their homes. The monitoring service combines the best available telecare equipment and systems along with a team of highly-trained and experienced operators [Telecare is the name given to a range of equipment linked to the traditional community alarm unit.]

Around 2,490 vulnerable residents are already using Linkline+ and out of these, 900 are within sheltered housing and 1,590 live independently.

The Council wants the enhanced service to reach more residents, both young and old who have a disability and those who feel threatened or vulnerable because of previous incidents of domestic violence or racial harassment.

Hounslow resident Linda is full of praise for how Linkline+ has helped her feel safer and more independent at home.

She said: “The service has helped me become independent at the touch of a button. I suffer from bad fits and I am so grateful to the staff at Linkline+ who help and support me again and again.”

No assessment is required to use the Linkline+ service but residents will need to be assessed if they wish to access the telecare equipment

Councillor Kamaljit Kaur, Cabinet Member for Adult Services, Hounslow Council, said:  “We know how important it is to support our vulnerable residents and to encourage independent living.

“Everyone’s homes are important and I believe it plays a crucial part in their happiness by making a difference to their health and wellbeing too.”
