These new homes, provided at council rent will consist of a mixture of apartments, maisonettes and houses available to those on the council’s housing register.
This development will include cycle storage for residents, new footpaths, and landscaping such as play areas and amenity space.
Cllr Curran, Leader of the Council, said: “I was very glad to be at the event to mark the start of the building of these much-needed council homes. Our commitment to our residents to provide sustainable, good quality homes to our residents is powering on full steam ahead as we help the borough through recovery and beyond.”
Cllr Bath, Deputy Leader of the Council and Lead Member for Housing said: “I’m delighted we are building these new council homes for residents; this will help meet our target to build 1000 new council homes by 2022. We all know and understand how important high-quality, carbon reducing housing is for our residents both for now and the future”
In line with the council’s climate emergency that was declared in 2019, the design of this development is rooted in sustainability through a range of eco-friendly initiatives, including photovoltaic panels to the roof of each block to generate renewable energy.
