25 new homes were recently completed as part of Hounslow Council’s redevelopment of the Sparrow Farm Community Centre.
The much-needed two and three-bedroom properties are available for social rent for residents on the Council’s housing waiting list, and three of the homes have been designed to accommodate wheelchair users.
As part of the redevelopment, the brand-new Passer Court Community Centre has also opened its doors. Situated next door to Barnham Court, the centre can host up to 300 people for a variety of events including weddings, parties, meetings, knitting circles and reading groups.
Barnham Court’s residents gathered with councillors on Thursday (3 June) to mark the completion of the homes and officially open the community centre.
One of the residents at the ceremony, who had been waiting for a better home for fourteen years, said:
"I am grateful to the council for providing such high-quality housing for me and my family. When the homes at Barnham Court were presented to me, I immediately felt a connection and thought this is my house. The development is amazing because on the outside it looks like an apartment, but it is a home! My home!“
Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, also shared his pride in the development:
“This is Hounslow Council at its best, providing high-quality and affordable council homes for residents who need them. It’s a delight to see families moving into these brilliant new homes and I’m determined that we will continue to deliver on our promise to build even more affordable homes.
“I want to thank Councillor Komal Chaudri for joining me at the official opening and for being a brilliant advocate for the residents in her ward. Her residents not only have these 25 new homes, but also a fantastic new community centre where the community can come together to celebrate their happiest moments, take part in clubs, meetings, training, and all that this modern centre can provide.”
