Hounslow Council has created tailor-made toolkits to support local retail and hospitality businesses to get ready for reopening on 12 April
Published: Thursday, 8th April 2021
One of the themes from the Covid-period has been a spirit of kindness and support. The Council is working in partnership with retail and hospitality businesses to make sure town centres are safe to visit.
The toolkits contain vital information and useful resources about the new rules and includes things like the do's and don'ts of using outdoor space, how to apply for a pavement licence, a reopening checklist, as well as useful links to Government guidelines and rules.
Business owners are also invited to sign up for free face-to-face support and advice in applying the Government rules to their businesses. To book a slot, email email@example.com or phone 07944 373 605.
It follows the launch of the Council's 'Don't Blow It' campaign which urges residents to stick to the rules as normal freedoms begin to slowly return such as socialising and shopping.
From 12 April, non-essential retail and hospitality, will be reopening. Pubs, restaurants and cafes will be serving food and drinks via table service outside, in gardens and terraces.
It's also been confirmed that following the reopening of non-essential retail from Monday 12 April at the earliest, businesses will be allowed to trade until 10pm Monday to Saturday.
This will be to help ease crowding in premises, give greater flexibility for customers to avoid peak times and help businesses operate safely. Customers are reminded to check their local shop for its opening hours.
It is hoped that all restrictions are lifted come 21 June but encourages residents that they 'Don't Blow It' between now and then.
Everyone needs to stick to the rules if freedoms are to return on the dates the Government has set out in its 4-step recovery plan and both businesses and residents are being encouraged to follow the rules carefully.
Peter Matthew, Executive Director of Housing, Planning and Communities at Hounslow Council, said:
“We are all excited to see shops across Hounslow reopening. It’s been a really challenging year for everyone, including businesses. We urge residents to shop local and support their high streets as much as they can.
“However, it is imperative that businesses open safely and keep their staff and customers safe in order to make this happen. This new toolkit will help business owners to reopen safely in line with Government regulations.
“We are also calling on Hounslow residents to play their part when visiting local shops with a clear message: ‘Don’t Blow It’ and follow the rules.”
Customers who are visiting shops when they reopen are reminded to:
- Maintain social distancing and stay two metres apart from other shoppers
- Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds or use hand sanitiser
- Wear a face covering unless exempt
- Pay by contactless/card payments if possible
- Only touch what you are going to buy
- Walk, cycle or use your own vehicle to travel within your local area. Please note that face coverings are compulsory if you are travelling by public transport
- Support your local businesses and shop local
