Hounslow Council is inviting all year nine students (aged 13-14) and their parents or carers the opportunity to join the first ever ‘Love Your Career’ Virtual Careers Fair, with support from the Mayor of London’s Office.

Students and their families will have the chance to meet local employers, including the NHS, Metropolitan Police and American Express, to identify career paths and opportunities that interest them and help them make informed decisions to realise those dreams.

Participants will also hear from Hounslow Alumni and get expert advice, guidance, and information on how to prepare for their next steps in education and future employment.

Cllr Tom Bruce, Cabinet Member for Education, Children and Youth Services, said:

“The Virtual Careers Fair is a fantastic opportunity to gather students and their families all in one place and to support them in making important GCSE subject choices, while connecting them with local businesses. Be reassured that although the event will be online it will still offer the same opportunity for one-to-one discussions and questions.

“We want all our young people to leave school and find careers they love, taking on work that offers a real sense of purpose, progress, and happiness.

“The past year has proven particularly difficult for children in secondary schools embarking on important decisions about their future. The Virtual Careers Fair will help to alleviate concerns about the future and help provide an insight into the future world of work.

“The Council is urging all parents and carers to also participate in the event and take advantage of the expert advice on how to support a child through the GCSE selection process and plan for their futures.

Taking place on 3 March, from 2pm to 8pm, the Virtual Careers Fair is designed with students at the forefront, with a dedicated online portal to simulate a traditional in-person event, with a full operational lobby, company display environments, a webinar platform and live theatre venue.

Through support from the Mayor of London’s office, Love Your Career was developed in 2020 because of COVID-19 and the pandemics impact on young people and the labour market they will eventually enter. The event aims to help engage students with career possibilities and support them to make their GCSE subject choices. The virtual fair is one of many activities being delivered through the London Borough of Hounslow Careers Cluster project ‘Expanding Horizon’s, Raising Aspirations’ funded by European Social Funds through the Mayor of London’s Office.

Registration is now open, students and their families should visit www.loveyourcareer.co.uk  to sign up and view the full schedule. Before signing up students should contact their career advisor for the unique school code to create a Love Your Career Profile.
