Cllr Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council, has responded to a report that shows passenger volumes at Heathrow Airport are down by 89% and cargo volume was down 21% in January.

Cllr Curran said:

"The Evening Standard report only underlines what we have been saying for months; that the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on Heathrow and the communities that rely on it have been devastating.

"We have repeatedly called on government to step in and provide support to Aviation Communities and for the same levels of support that other sectors have seen. So far there has been no response. The Evening Standard article gives us further justification for repeating that call today. Perhaps this time, with a stark warning from Mr Holland-Kaye, Government Ministers might listen.”
