Councillor Steve Curran, the Leader of Hounslow Council, has reacted to the announcement that Tier 3 measures will apply across London from 00.01 on Wednesday 16th December.

Councillor Curran said “We have obviously reached a very serious situation with London’s move to Tier 3, and it must now be clear that we must all stick to the rules if this is not going to get even worse.
“As a council we were prepared for a move to Tier 3. We are ready to meet its challenges, to help businesses and to support and protect our most vulnerable. We are mobilising to deliver those plans now.
"Despite the best efforts of residents in Hounslow and London to keep numbers relatively low, COVID19 cases are rising exponentially. It is therefore right to move all London boroughs to Tier 3 from Wednesday. This will be extremely disappointing and worrying for residents and businesses in Hounslow.
"But it shows how difficult the virus is to beat. It shows we must all continue to work together to defeat it, to protect our NHS and prevent it being overwhelmed, to save the lives of residents, to stop businesses being closed for longer than necessary and to prevent further jobs being lost.
"I know this makes life even more difficult for everyone during the Christmas and New Year holidays, but we cannot forget many thousands of people have already lost their lives to COVID-19. With, tragically, 274 of those deaths in Hounslow, we must do everything we can to stop further lives being lost in our communities.
"We are all in this together. Hounslow can and will work together in the One Hounslow spirit we saw so clearly in the first wave. The Council continues to work very closely with Public Health England (London), London Councils and the Mayor to do everything we can to protect the most vulnerable in our communities."
