Hounslow Library re-opened today (Thursday 18 May) at its new home at Hounslow Civic Centre.
The library, previously based in the Treaty Centre, closed last week (Friday 12 May) to allow the relocation of furniture and stock to the Civic Centre building in Lampton Road, before re-opening today.

Following the move, the library opening hours will remain unchanged, and parking for library users will be available in the Civic Centre pay and display car park.

As well as the lending library, there have been changes to other services operating from the library premises in the Treaty Centre:

  • The Archives and Local Studies service closed on 12 May and is relocating to Feltham Library. It will re-open there in mid-June, with some of the Thomas Layton special collection going into temporary storage until further space can be adapted for it.

  • Some Adult Education classes which are currently held at the Treaty Centre will continue to run in the library space up to Friday 26 May, before six classes move to newly-constructed facilities at the Civic Centre, resuming on Monday 5 June. A full list of classes that are moving is available at https://www.hounslow.gov.uk/hounslowlibrarymove

  • The Connexions drop-in service (formerly known as The Attic) closed on 12 May and will re-open at the Civic Centre on Monday 22 May on the ground floor near the library area

The library’s temporary move follows the signing of a ten-year contract between the council and Job Centre Plus (JCP) to occupy the Treaty Centre space from the end of May. It will result in significant savings for the council on the annual ground rent for the Treaty Centre space, while ensuring that the library and its services remain fully up and running and accessible to residents.

It will also mean that the library will be able to ‘lift and shift’ when it moves with the Council to its new, smaller building in Bath Road in Spring 2019.
