Hounslow Library will be moving to its new temporary home at the Civic Centre, Lampton Road, in May.
Published: Friday, 21st April 2017
The library, currently based in the Treaty Centre, will close from 5pm on Friday 12 May and re-open again on Thursday 18 May after relocating to the ground floor of the Civic Centre.
The library opening hours and services will remain unchanged following the move, and parking will be in the Civic Centre pay and display car park.
If residents wish to use other libraries during the week-long closure, the nearest libraries are:
- Heston Library - New Heston Road, TW5 0LW. T: 020 8898 0256
- Osterley Library - St Mary’s Crescent, TW7 4NB. T: 020 8560 4295
- Isleworth Library - Twickenham Road, TW7 7EU. T: 020 8560 2934
Residents can renew items online by visiting www.hounslowlibraries.org or contacting their local library by phone.
Normal services will continue at all other libraries in the borough.
The temporary move follows the signing of a ten-year contract with Job Centre Plus (JCP) to occupy the Treaty Centre space from the end of May. It will result in significant savings for the Council on the annual ground rent for the Treaty Centre space, while ensuring that the library and its services remain fully up and running and accessible to residents.
It will also mean that the library will be able to ‘lift and shift’ when it moves with the Council to its new, smaller building in Bath Road in Spring 2019.
Councillor Corinna Smart, Cabinet Member for Public Health and Leisure, Hounslow Council, said: “This temporary relocation of Hounslow Library secures a considerable financial saving for the Council over the next few years, while at the same time, ensuring that a very valuable service is kept running and is accessible to all residents.
“While the library move in May will inevitably cause some disruption, we will ensure the move is completed as quickly and effectively as possible.”
