Residents have until midnight today [Friday 31 March] to subscribe to Hounslow Council’s garden waste collection service 2017.
A full year’s service costs £50, but for residents in receipt of Council Tax Reduction the cost is £25.
Over 9,000 residents have so far signed up for the service, with nearly 7,000 of these signing up online.
Residents need to sign up online by 31 March, for the fortnightly garden waste collections from 3 April 2017 to 31 March 2018, with a break of two weeks over the Christmas period.
Last year, more than 16,000 residents signed up. As a result, the Council collected around 3,500 tonnes of garden waste which has all been turned into compost – that’s enough to fill two Olympic-sized swimming pools.
Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “Thousands of residents signed up to the service last year and already, we’re on course to more than double the amount who are subscribing.
“The opportunity to sign up is until midnight Friday, so there’s not long to go. We need residents’ help to collect more garden waste so we can drive up the borough’s recycling rates to 50 per cent by 2019.
“We promised a cleaner, greener borough and our aim is to do this through recycling and being more environment-friendly.”
The garden waste collection service is now run by Recycle 360, the company wholly- owned by Hounslow Council.
