There’s just one week to go to save 10 per cent on the council’s garden waste service for 2017 which starts on 3 April.
Residents need to sign up on our garden waste page by 28 February to receive a 10 per cent discount on the cost of fortnightly garden waste collections from 3 April 2017 to 31 March 2018 with a break of two weeks over the Christmas period.
The 10 per cent discounted garden waste collection service will cost £45.00.
The cost to residents in receipt of Council Tax Reduction will be £22.50.
One life-long resident who has taken advantage of the 10 per cent saving is 84 year-old, Mrs June Evans: “I signed up right away to the garden waste collection service and was so pleased to get my discount.
“I love gardening and it is good exercise but I used to worry about how I’d get rid of all the cuttings and grass from my large garden. Now I don’t have to fret as I know it will be collected every fortnight by Hounslow Council’s garden waste service.”
Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “Last year more than 16,000 residents signed up to the service and this year we are hoping more residents like Mrs Evans will follow.
Last year we collected enough garden waste to fill two Olympic-sized swimming pools (3,500 tonnes) and turned it all into compost. This year we need residents’ help to collect more so we can drive up the borough’s recycling rates to 50 per cent by 2019.”
The garden waste collection service is now run by Recycle 360, the company wholly- owned by Hounslow Council.
The sign up window for the 2017 this service runs from now until 31 March 2017.
The 10 per cent discount applies only for people who sign up before the end of February 2017.
