Hounslow Council has pledged its continued support for this year’s Great British September Clean, run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy taking place from 11 – 27 September, having been postponed from March due to Covid-19.
Earlier this year, Keep Britain Tidy were blown away by the support received from volunteers, local authorities, charities and businesses across the country with over 680,000 people registering to take part in the Great British Spring Clean and so is delighted to be able to reschedule for September. The events will be smaller in scale up to a maximum group size of six people and adhere to strict safety measures to ensure the safety of all who take part.
The Great British Spring Clean, brings together individuals, community organisations, businesses and councils to show they love where they live and in 2019 more than half a million volunteers collected more than 900,000 bags of rubbish.
Last year in Hounslow, with your help we were able to organise over 50 events, more than any other London borough, spanning many areas, within our parks and open spaces, streets and community spaces. It made a real difference, with over 500 bags of litter being collected - 25 per cent of which was suitable for recycling in the borough.
Councillor Guy Lambert, Cabinet Member for Highways, Recycling and Trading Companies at Hounslow Council said:
“Despite the challenges posed by Covid-19, we are delighted to once again give Keep Britain Tody’s campaign our full support and call on our army of volunteers and #Litterheroes to follow 2019’s successful campaign in Hounslow. Residents, groups and businesses that take part can get in touch with us to access litter picking equipment and arrange for the collection of separated bags following clean ups.
“The Great British Spring Clean builds on the principle that we all want Hounslow to be a place where people take pride and work together to achieve a cleaner, greener borough. I’m keen to do a few of these myself so if you need an extra pair of hands don’t be shy to invite me – and ward councillors across the borough will want to take part too, so please invite them also.
“We hope you will join us in giving our borough a good clean-up this September!”
