Hounslow Council, working in partnership with Safer Business Hounslow and Hounslow Chamber of Commerce have introduced new business support advisors to help ensure that businesses are 'Covid-19 Secure' as part of the #ShopSafeShopLocal campaign. The campaign is being funded by the European Regional Development Fund to support the safe reopening of high streets and other commercial areas in England.

Business Support Advisers have been fully trained by the Chamber’s HSE (Health & Safety Executive) Director, and are visiting businesses across the borough, especially independent businesses/retailers offering advice and assistance to ensure that they operate safely and are Covid-19 secure.

The Advisers will focus on Hounslow High Street, Feltham, Brentford, Chiswick, and Isleworth town centres, but they will also be visiting shopping parades across the borough to help as many businesses as possible to trade safely and give customers confidence when visiting their premises.

Marcia Hallet, owner of Naked Grain, a furniture store in Brentford, recently met with Tony Martin, Business Support Advisor, and Sally Smith, Chief Operating Officer of Hounslow Chamber, to discuss what measures were needed to ensure that her store is Covid-19 Secure.

Marcia said: “I was really impressed with the service, especially the graphic sign regarding the wearing of face coverings.  A sign in the front window of the shop is so much easier than having to tell each customer that they need to be wearing a mask to enter.”

With measures in place, Naked Grain had a record-breaking first week back since reopening and is feeling really positive about its future.

Councillor Shantanu Rajawat, Lead Member for Finance and Corporate Services, said:

“The Council is very pleased to be working in partnership to bring support and guidance for our local business community. Partnership is at the heart of what we do and, together with Safer Business Hounslow and Hounslow Chamber of Commerce, we are using our expertise to make sure businesses are operating safely and that social distancing measures are adhered to.”
